Ed Sheeran – Supermarket Flowers Lyrics

Play Ed Sheeran Supermarket Flowers Lyrics Audio by Ed Sheeran

I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill
I threw the day-old tea from the cup
Packed up the photo album Matthew had made
Memories of a life that’s been loved

Took the “Get Well Soon” cards and stuffed animals
Poured the old ginger beer down the sink
Dad always told me, “Don’t you cry when you’re down.”
But, mum, there’s a tear every time that I blinkOh, I’m in pieces. It’s tearing me up but I know
A heart that’s broke is a heart that’s been lovedSo, I’ll sing Hallelujah,

You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you’d be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back
He’ll say, “Hallelujah, you’re home.”I fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up
Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case
John said he’d drive, then put his hand on my cheek
And wiped a tear from the side of my faceAnd I hope that I see the world as you did ’cause I know
A life with love is a life that’s been lived

So, I’ll sing Hallelujah,
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you’d be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go, when God takes you back
He’ll say, “Hallelujah, you’re home.”

Hallelujah,
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
You got to see the person I have become
Spread your wings and I know
That when God took you back, he said, “Hallelujah, you’re home.”

    1. Last year my mom fell and while in a hospital she was neglected terribly and developed a bed sore that wasn’t watched. My heart started to break since this area was being ignored and there wasnt a blessed thing my sister and I could do. We couldn’t see it and they were forever telling us things were ok. We were losing and we didn’t know what to do about it. we complained to the surgeon, head nurse, administrator, dr in charge and it was all fluffed under the chair. she was healing for the hip surgery but her pain from what ever this was on her spine was destroying this strong willed woman. Mom was being discharged to another nursing home and I was pertrified. They are the ones that called me over and told me to take a deep breath. Her sore on her spine that they were hiding from us was black as coal, infected to the bone and 6 ” x around 6″. what a curse that these people allowed happen, the infection was already down to her bone….Mom started have surgeries and it became more painful with each day… mom was losing her battle because of lies and neglect. My poor precious mom. Months before mom passed I heard your song supermarket flowers… I sat there and cried and said he had to share this song with all of mom’s loved ones. It was played at the end of the service and everyone thought of my mom with tears… It was the perfect closure for my mom’s service. She was my hero, my rock she believed in me.. I am lost now, I lost my job 10 days after my mom’s funeral. I am not sure what to do anymore, we have to get a new memorial stone and we have to get in mom’s house to clean it out an to go through the horrific painful memories of the end. Mom passed at the house and I can’t seem to go to that room. I am working in the kitchen trying to clean. How do you get through the grief. I know your song with the start of healing. I need to find how to make a statement for the elderly who are the forgotten soul. I wish I could be an advocate for the forgotten souls.. These beautiful souls need to be respected. They need to sing and love and laugh through the day. No sad days, creative days, lectures, dances and more. I just need a change to make a difference in my mom’s name. Mom Estelle can’t die in vain. Ed, please help me. Please help me help others.. This cruelty can’t continue. I have so many horrible things that were done to her in many hospitals and assistant living venues and rehabs. I have witnessed doctors pushing her wound under the sheet and the thats true about the nurses and aids. It was like shoving under a blanket so no one would knowl..

Ed Sherran, please help me be an advocate for your grandma’s and my mom’s and others aunts and uncles. I need a help to get this motion to start and to start save lives within these facilities. the customer service has got to improve.. I sure wish you would read the letter. I am not quitting to till I see improvements in these places. Please help me… Please. Thank-you Mr. Sherran

  30. My Mom currently has Scleroderma. It’s slowley taking her life and it is painful to watch…much like any fatal disease… But currently there is no cure for it, or medicines that help…so she is suffering.
If you don’t mind I would like to add this song to the video montage that I am preparing for her funeral. I pray it is several years away…but I am working on it slowly so its not as painful for me.
My Mom was a nurse for 45 years always cared for so many…so the line “you were an angle in the shape of my Mum.” starts the tears flowing for me.
I love the chorus too…it’s hard to pick just one line. It’s an amazing song. Thank you for sharing it.

  37. My favourite line in this song is :” When God took you back he said Hallelujah you are home “, because it is exactly what I said when my mum passed away 13 months ago after suffering from sever dementia for the last 10 years of her life, She died on Easter Sunday which was a very appropriate day to die since my mother was a very religious person, and each time I hear this song it reminds me of her. Love it ! Keep the songs coming Ed ♡ The Maltese People love you x

  38. I was driving, on the way to work the first time I heard this song. After the first 2 lines I had to pull over, tears were running down my cheeks. I lost my mum a few years ago and still miss her terribly. This song was so sad but uplifting and beautiful all at the same time. I still can not listen without a tear coming to my eyes, but I know I have my angel looking down on me because I know God tookmy mum back.
My favorite line is “But Mum, there’s a tear every time that I blink. (Very Apt).
Thanks Ed for a heart warming beautiful song.

  39. You were an angel in the shape of my mum. Lost my mother when I was 19. She never saw me finish college or see the woman I have become. She never met the young lady, she has as a granddaughter.

  40. Gives me all the feels & brings such sweet memories of my angel mom.

“Dad always told me, “Don’t you cry when you’re down.”
